A New York City woman who dated the year-old suspected murderer whom police believe used dating apps to target his victims said he seemed like a “dream guy” at first, but that facade eventually faded when he allegedly attacked her six months later. Zynea Barney, 26, said she began interacting with Danueal Drayton last November after he messaged her on an online dating and matchmaking application, for “two days straight. Barney “wasn’t looking for love” at the time, so she said she ignored the messages at first, but she eventually replied. Barney and Drayton were soon texting every day, and three weeks later, their conversations evolved to phone calls, she said. At the time, she says she found him to be a “real good guy” with his “head on his shoulders. Drayton stood out because instead of asking Barney for photos of her body, like a “normal guy” would, he would inquire about her goals and dreams instead, she said. Just you know — the perfect guy. What Barney first perceived as interest later translated into what she felt was him “pretending to have similarities” with her, which is what “kept the conversations going,” she said. The first time the pair met in person, they stayed in a hotel together but slept in separate beds, Barney said.
The Canadian Press Staff. Before blazing a trail of carnage across Nova Scotia, the man behind one of Canada’s worst mass killings attacked his longtime girlfriend — a story domestic violence experts say is eerily familiar. Police say this assault was potentially the “catalyst” for the horrific murder spree that claimed 22 victims last week. Many mass killings begin with abuse of the people closest to home, say researchers and advocates.
To prevent future tragedy, they say authorities need to recognize the threat domestic violence poses to the public. It usually suggests a much broader pattern of concern about the perpetrator.

The authors document the childhood neuropsychiatric and family characteristics of nine male subjects who were clinically evaluated as adolescents and were later arrested for murder. Those subjects are compared with 24 incarcerated delinquents who did not go on to commit violent offenses. The future murderers displayed a constellation of biopsychosocial characteristics that included psychotic symptoms, major neurological impairment, a psychotic first-degree relative, violent acts during childhood, and severe physical abuse.
The authors relate this combination of factors to prediction of violence and discuss ethical issues that are involved in intervention to prevent violence. Murder is the most serious of all crimes. Therefore, knowledge that can help to predict and thus potentially prevent extraordinary violence is worth reporting. The purpose of this paper is to document the psychological, neurological, and experiential factors that consistently appeared in the cases of nine adolescents who later committed murder and to compare these adolescents with a sample of 24 delinquents who did not go on to commit violent acts within 6 years of discharge from a juvenile correction facility.
With the exception of a single paper describing one young murderer 1 , to the best of our knowledge all of the literature on the neuropsychiatric antecedents of homicide is retrospective. There is a controversy in the literature regarding the prevalence and severity of mental illness in murderers. McKnight et al. That study was, however, skewed by the fact that the sample was taken from a prison hospital.
Several other authors 3 — 7 have found murderers to have a higher prevalence of psychoses, especially the schizophrenias, than the general population. Once again, results vary 2 ,
